The New Forest Project

The New Forest Project is a nonprofit organization created to help reforest and support local communities in Mexico. The project takes products made in a sustainable, non-damaging way to the forest, and sells them to costumers in the United States. The Project will use a website with both Spanish and English versions, to inform, promote, and sell the products to costumers and businesses in the surrounding Williamsburg, Virginia community. The monetary funds from the sold crafts will be given back to the Mexican communities in order to promote their economy and to support their traditional lifestyle. Assistance will be given to provide education to the Mexican communities, as well as to fund reforestation. In this way, The New Forest Project is using the forest to reforest itself. The cycle is complete and refuels itself.

There are many Mexican communities that need help selling their eco-products and crafts, however the demand is quite slim in their nearby Mexican markets. Thus the New Forest Project is using the fast-growing trend of being “green” and “eco-friendly” in the United States to sell these organic and handmade goods. One community the New Forest Project works with, makes eco-journals made from natural fibers, recycled paper, and pressed leaves. We support other communities that sell organic, fair trade coffee, honey, and chicle. The New Forest Project strives to create the best relationship between the local Mexican population and the United States patrons.
